Season 2 - October 2021
Award winning British audio drama Red Valley returns for Season 2.
Part 1 of the second season of acclaimed audio drama Red Valley launches on October 31st 2021.
The first season of the sci-fi thriller followed Jonathan Williams as lowly account man Warren Godby, investigating a defunct research station that had disappeared from the books of his employer, tech giant Overhead Industries. Alongside Gordon Porlock (Alan Mandel), a disgruntled company archivist with a bag of recordings of the station’s last known occupant, Aubrey Wood (Tash Reith-Banks), their journey took them to the limits of experimental science, confronting horror and trauma from the past, present and future. Season 1 concluded with Warren and Gordon uncovering far more than they had bargained for, and the new season delves into the aftermath of their discoveries.
The show has received acclaim from listeners around the world and earlier this year was nominated for two awards at the international Audio Verse Awards, winning Best Song for the anthem ‘Morior Invictus’. A miniseries (While You Were Hypersleeping) was then released that told the story of what happened to Gordon Porlock immediately after Season 1 ended and is available via all podcast providers.
Joining Season 2 are a number of experienced actors from stage and screen who have worked on projects from Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman for Audible, to performing at the Globe and on the RSC stage; including Rachel Fowler, Daon Broni, Susan Hingley and David Charles.
Season 2 returns to Red Valley, where Warren and Gordon appear to have solved the mystery of what’s going on at the isolated research station - the only catch is they’re now part of it. In this dark and distant corner of the world, events are about to be put in motion that will ripple through the rest of the world - perhaps to the end of humanity itself.
Jonathan Williams (writer) and Alan Mandel (director) return as Warren Godby and Gordon Porlock, and are joined by returning cast members Tash-Reith Banks (Aubrey Wood), May Cunningham (Bryony Halbech), Alexander Broad (Clive Schill), Carol Pestridge, Max Panks, Rosie Owen, John Cook Lynch and Richard Campbell. The new additions to the cast include Rachel Fowler (Pamela Jennings), Daon Broni (Degracious Melé), Susan Hingley (Hester Hiyashi), David Charles (Malcolm Landry), Natalie Day (Blue Sky), Robin Hellier, James Craze, Mark Ruddick, Elin Eaton, Sam Cartwright, Kelsey Griffin and Oliver James Parkins.
Red Valley features original music by Richard Orpheus Campbell and sound design by Alexander Broad and Richard Orpheus Campbell. Assistant Director was Carol Pestridge. All episodes were produced and recorded at Orpheus Studio in London.
Red Valley Season 2 will be released in two parts. The first four episodes will be released fortnightly starting on Sunday October 31st 2021, with the second four episodes following in early 2022. Catch up on Season 1 and the miniseries While You Were Hypersleeping wherever you get your podcasts now.

Season 1 - March 2020
A brand new UK audio drama explores the creation of one of sci-fi’s great unexplained technologies – Hypersleep.
‘Red Valley’, a 6 part sci-fi audio drama, is the podcast debut for writer Jonathan Williams and co-director Alan Mandel, after years of obsession and research into one of the most prevalent features in science fiction.
Hypersleep, also known as cryosleep, stasis, suspended animation and any number of other names, is one of the most pervasive tropes in science fiction. Like lightspeed or artificial gravity, it is one of the great means-to-an-ends in all of the genre.
From Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo waking in their matching white pods in Alien, to Dave Lister being in stasis for 3 million years on board Red Dwarf, none of these stories ever explain how such incredible technology – the ability to place a human in safe, ageless hibernation, often at extreme low temperatures – came to be. To what lengths might someone go to create such technology? What lines might they have to cross? Who would be the first subjects to go through this process – and would they make it out in one piece?
Writer Jonathan Williams says, “The word ‘hypersleep’ might bring to mind any number of classic stories and ideas, but the actual concept is still largely unexplored in science fiction. We think there’s a unique story to tell here and hopefully we’ve made something you haven’t quite heard before.”
‘Red Valley’tells the story of Warren Godby, a lowly accounts man struggling to find his way at enormous tech corporation Overhead. His investigation into a defunct research station that appears to have disappeared from the books introduces him to Gordon Porlock, a recluse from the archives department who’s all too eager to share recordings from the station's last known occupant, Aubrey Wood. Together, the three of them will journey to the limits of experimental science, confront horror and trauma from the past, present and future, and try to remember the level select cheat from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
‘Red Valley’ features original music and sound design by Richard Campbell working alongside creative consultant Carol Pestridge. All 6 episodes were produced and recorded at Orpheus Studio in London, and feature a diverse and experienced cast of voice actors including; Alan Mandel (Gordon Porlock), Jonathan Williams (Warren Godby), Tash-Reith Banks (Dr Aubrey Wood), May Cunningham (Karen Godby)and Alexander Broad (Clive Schill)with additional voices fromCarol Pestridge, Richard Campbell, Max Panks, Rosie Owen, Robin Hellier, Sophie Wilson, Hadley Smith, Heather Wilson, John Cook Lynch, Chloe Gardiner, Paul Teeling, Nima Cas Hunt, Lee Bowers and Harlano Weekes.
‘Red Valley’ will be released as 6 weekly episodes starting on Sunday March 22nd 2020, and you can subscribe on most podcast platforms now (including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and Google Podcasts).
