"Push the boundaries," said Brian Kesinger, an artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios. "Fan art isn't about rules. It's about expressing yourself." Over the last 6 weeks there's been an influx of absolutely incredible fan art drawn for our show. We have loved seeing all of the interpretations of our characters through the eyes of our fans and want to support all who wish to keep making art. Creating fan art and putting it out there can be a tricky thing to navigate but we hope to make it a little clearer for you here. Fan art can be created for so many reasons and although we know that for some it could be simply for the joy of creating, we also fully appreciate that drawing your favourite characters or writing fanfic isn't always just for fun, it's also a way to explore identity and express oneself. It's also a wonderful opportunity for honing and developing one's craft and no matter what reason you are creating fan art we are fully behind all of these reasons.
To be clear, fan art is, by definition, drawn by fans. As such, the art does not represent any official representations of the characters featured in Red Valley from us at Kontinue Productions. We own the intellectual property ("IP") of our show and when there are officially endorsed images of the show and our characters we will make this explicitly clear. That is not to say that we don't absolutely adore seeing all of the wonderful sketches, paintings, digital art and animatics that all of these artists are making. Far from it! We want you all to keep drawing everything that your imagination can conjure up and keep sharing your art with us via the #redvalleyfanart. What we wanted to clear up for you is the murky topic surrounding selling these artworks. If you wish to sell any of the artworks that you have created that represent Red Valley or any of its characters then we will ask you to read through and sign the licence below. We are happy to give you the permission to sell your artwork if you agree to the terms in the licence, so have a thorough read through it all before signing it and forwarding it on to us at [email protected]. |
